Rogier van der Weyden 1400|1464 - Master of Passions has
seduced no fewer than 151,751 visitors!
On the stroke of 18.00 hrs on Sunday December 6th, the curtain came
down on the prestigious exhibition about one of the greatest
Flemish Primitives. This extraordinary collection of masterpieces
generated a huge amount of interest at home and abroad.
Visitor numbers exceeded our highest expectations! In the eleven weeks of the exhibition, over 150,000 visitors made Rogier's acquaintance. That is an average of approximately13,800 visitors a week and 2,300 a day. Half of the exhibition time was completely sold out. There was also great interest from abroad with the Dutch, French and Germans finding their way to M in the largest numbers. Almost a third of the visitors visited the exhibition as part of a group. It drew not only members of societies and clubs, but also groups from primary and secondary schools.
The more than 100 masterpieces from 58 international collections
will now make their way home. Time is also up for Walter Verdin's
multi-screen installation, which brought Rogier van der Weyden's
famous 'Leuven' Deposition from the Cross to life. However, Sliding
Time can be viewed online at www.slidingtime.be.
